What kind of fabric is Italian synthetic velour?

Velour is soft and velvety, therefore it is often confused with velvet. The velvety effect is achieved using special weaving: a warp is formed from two threads; the same amount of threads forms the surface layer; the fifth layer is a pile. Originally, velour was made from natural fabrics, but later synthetic ones were added, which in fact only improved the properties of the fabric.

With the development of technology, synthetics almost completely replaced natural fabrics. Today some manufacturers use cheap artificial compounds, thus such velour quickly deteriorates, wipes, electrifies. However, Italian factories produce materials that meet all quality standards, which makes the Italian synthetic velour so appealing for the top designers. The absolute superiority of Italian fabrics lies in high quality and impeccable appearance.

Types of Synthetic Velour

Synthetic threads are used in several types of the fabric:

  1. Furniture velour is dense and resistant to abrasion. Synthetics are usually combined with cotton or wool.
  2. Auto velour fabric is the most abrasion and mechanical stress resistant material. It is rough, but pleasant to the touch.
  3. Microline is a microfiber material with excellent wear resistance. It can be used for the production of insoles for shoes, as it is waterproof.
  4. Stretch velour is an expensive and elite fabric. It is pleasant to touch, comfortable to wear and able to stain perfectly. Often used for applying printed patterns.

Stretch velour is usually used for tailoring. It consists of viscose, polyester and lycra. This composition provides the ability to emphasize the body shapes and form beautiful draperies.

What is sewn with synthetic velour?

According to material’s composition and ways of production, it requires special care rules. Fabrics, which include polyamide, cotton, or polyester, are very durable, therefore they are used in the production of furniture upholstery. Microfiber material is used in the manufacture of footwear, lining for outerwear and for furniture decoration. Stretch velour is predominantly used for the production of clothes, including evening dresses.

When choosing a material, pay attention to its composition. If velour is made of 100% polyester, then there are no doubts of low quality; most likely it is produced in China or Turkey. Italian velour contains much less artificial fibers. Its price will be higher, but the quality of the material fully justifies its cost.
