Italian cashmere

Cashmere has long been considered as one of the best materials. There are reasons to think like this: it makes you warm in cold weather; it is gentle and soft to the touch; it is natural and has a very elegant appearance. We invite you to buy real cashmere in the Tessuti dell'Arte online shop.

How to choose and where to buy Italian cashmere?

Cashmere is a very thin fabric. The thickness of a human hair is 50 microns, and the thickness of one cashmere thread is only 16 microns. Therefore, the main way to distinguish it from the wool is by touch as cashmere is very tender. Another important factor is the length of the thread: the larger it is, the better the material.

Unscrupulous manufacturers often use short threads, which are much cheaper. They also add artificial materials to them. The second way of cheating is to take not a gentle fluff from animals’ belly for yarn production, but a coarser one from the sides. We purchase fabrics only from trusted suppliers, so we are confident in the quality of the products. You can also check it by ordering free samples. But keep in mind that the material is in great request, so we do not recommend hesitating long before purchasing.

What is Italian cashmere?

Many people think that cashmere is a variety of wool. In fact, this term refers to the material which is not made of wool, but of the down of mountain goats, which is plucked manually. The high price of the material is in fact due to the manual labor: a goat is not got sheared, but its hair is plucked with a special device.

Only about 100 grams of raw down is obtained after the procession of one goat. Thus, the production of sweaters requires fluff of 5-6 animals. Coloured cashmere fabrics are usually made from white fluff that is easily dyed. Gray and black fluff is hard to dye, so things made from it have the most natural colours.

Advantages of Italian cashmere

Due to the properties of fluff and a special way of its processing, cashmere acquires the following unique qualities:

  • Tenderness and softness;
  • Lightweight;
  • Wear resistance, strength;
  • Ability to keep heat;
  • A positive effect on muscles and joints;
  • Lack of tendency to form spools.

It is important to know that the fabric is rarely too bright, even if made from white fluff. Fibers create a haze on its surface, slightly overshadowing the color. Therefore, if a cashmere thing has a very bright colour, there is a high probability that this is a fake.

Types of cashmere

Raw material from which cashmere is made can be of different quality, depending on the location of animals, their age and diet. According to this information, there are several types of cashmere:

  • Pashmina is a fabric made of fluff collected from the neck and belly of animals. It is very thin and delicate, and used, as a rule, for the production of shawls and scarves;
  • Blend cashmere contains fibers of other materials;
  • Mongolian cashmere is made from the down of Mongolian goats.

Shawls, scarves, sweaters and cardigans are made from natural cashmere. There is also a coat fabric, in which wool is added to enhance density, such as alpaca. This material is very warm, silky and smooth. All these fabrics can be selected and ordered in our online shop.
